This week we focus on: Selective Traffic Enforcement Program

​SGI and Saskatchewan law enforcement focused on school zone safety last month. Police issued a total of 689¹ tickets related to school zones², including:

• 678¹ tickets for speeding;
• 2 tickets for drivers failing to yield to pedestrians in an intersection or crosswalk;
• 4 tickets to pedestrians walking into the path of a vehicle;
• 5 tickets for drivers not obeying school bus safety lights.

In addition, there were 6,093¹ other offences committed throughout September, resulting in:

• 240 impaired-driving related offences;
• 414 tickets for distracted driving (294 of those for using a cellphone while driving);
• 446 tickets for inappropriate or no seatbelt/child safety seat;
• 517 tickets for failing to obey a stop sign or red light;
• 4,476 speeding tickets.

STEP Results

Law enforcement from around the province held a two-day Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) in Moose Jaw on Sept. 14 and 15. Police were enforcing all traffic violations but were especially focused on impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving/cellphone use and seatbelt safety.

Police issued tickets for the following offences:

• 1 impaired driving-related offence;
• 19 tickets for using a cellphone while driving;
• 36 speeding tickets.

Car seat technicians also checked 129 seatbelts/child safety seats and police issued 72 tickets for inappropriate or no seatbelt/child safety seat, and gave away seven child safety seats as encouragement to always buckle up children properly.

SGI reminds motorists that police are paying special attention to impaired driving throughout October, as well as distracted driving, speeding and seatbelt use.

Events:

Fright night starts from 6-9 pm  on Thursday. This scare is child friendlyfor kids under the ages of 12 , treats and hot dogs will be served at the half way point. Friday night scare starts at 9pm and goes until midnight. This is for ages 13 and up admission is $5 per person both nights.

General skating hours are Saturday's and Sunday's from 12-2 pm and shinny to follow from 2-4. This hours are subject ot change depending on hockey schedule.

- Nov 2nd - Flu Clinic from 10 am - 6 pm at Club 60, second one on the 16th, third one on December 13th.

- Nov 4th - Potluck Supper at Endeavour School runs from 4:30 - 7:00 pm. Proceeds to the Hospital Fund for recruitment and retention

- Nov 16th - Whitehawk Arts Council presents THE LION, THE BEAR, THE FOX - The Lion, the Bear, the Lion demonstrates an uncompromising devotion to their chosen craft. Stompy blues, rock grooves can suddenly give way to hushed folk passages woven together by three whispers speaking as one - That's Nov 16th, 7:30pm at the Sturgis Community Hall.
