This week we focus on: Tourism Growth in Saskatchewan

Stats Canada Numbers Show Strong Tourism Growth in Saskatchewan
Released on July 23, 2018
Saskatchewan’s tourism sector made significant gains in 2017.
"Visits to and within the province by Canadians increased by 9.4 per cent from 2016, placing Saskatchewan well ahead of Canada’s overall growth rate of 2.1 per cent.  Visitor expenditures showed even higher growth, with a jump of 10.4 per cent. Canadian visitors, including Saskatchewan residents travelling within the province, spent $1.88 billion in 2017.
"Relate that to rural Saskatchewan like our area that could reach a number over 5 million."
"We are delighted by the growth in the province’s tourism sector in the domestic market," Minister Responsible for Tourism Saskatchewan Gene Makowsky said.  "Saskatchewan has an abundance of attractions and beautiful natural scenery, and it is good to see visitors from Canada discovering what we in Saskatchewan have always known."
To further increase engagement and drive visitation to the province, Tourism Saskatchewan has introduced new technologies and online capabilities over the last year. Engagement on Tourism Saskatchewan’s consumer website has grown significantly between 2017 and 2018, with a 99.5 per cent increase in page views and average time spent on the site up by 85 per cent.
"Tourism Saskatchewan made a shift to focus on digital marketing strategies in recent years, and this move is paying dividends in visitor engagement and spending,” Tourism Saskatchewan CEO Mary Taylor-Ash said.  "It is gratifying to see that visitors are coming to the province in ever-greater numbers to enjoy our diverse and unique tourism experiences."
Improvements to the consumer website, TourismSaskatchewan.com, include a new interactive map, advanced search capability, re-categorized and revised tourism operator listings, and a new approach to vacation offerings.  Further enhancements to the website will be introduced in the coming months."

This week we focus on: Summer of FFun - Salute To Preeceville 606 Harvard Squadron

Salute to Preeceville - 606 Air Cadets - 606 Harvard Squadron

"The Cadet Program is one of the largest federally sponsored youth programs in Canada that includes:
  • The Royal Canadian Sea Cadets;
  • The Royal Canadian Army Cadets; and
  • The Royal Canadian Air Cadets.
It is a national program for young Canadians aged 12 to 18 who are interested in participating in a variety of fun, challenging and rewarding activities while learning about the Sea , Army and Air activities of the Canadian Armed Forces.
Cadets are encouraged to become active, responsible members of their communities. They make valuable contributions to Canadian society on a daily basis in terms of environmental, citizenship and community activities.
Cadets also learn valuable life and work skills such as teamwork, leadership and citizenship"

"Cadets are not members of the Canadian Armed Forces, nor are they expected to join the military. While they are introduced to Sea, Army and/or Air activities of the Canadian Armed Forces and certain traditions, they are also introduced to many other respectable career choices that are available to them.
Through the Cadet Program, the Government of Canada is investing in today’s youth and Canada’s future.
The Cadet Program is community-based. The program succeeds through strong community support and involvement. Cadets in turn make valuable contributions to their communities"

"Air Cadets learn the principles of aviation, while some learn to become glider pilots, pilots of engine-propelled aircraft or both"

"Royal Canadian Air Cadets participate in a variety of fun and challenging activities. There is something for everyone – no matter what their personal interests may be. The outdoor enthusiast will appreciate learning survival skills for flight crew. The athlete will appreciate physical education and recreation, including a variety of sporting activities like biathlon and Olympic-style marksmanship. The artists will find their niche in the music program.
The curious will appreciate the hands-on activities such as building model aircraft. The scholarly will appreciate an introduction to the various tools and technologies linked to aviation. The dreamers will appreciate the evolution of technology and the advancements of the aerospace era, including the importance of Canadian participation.
Select top senior cadets may even earn the chance to represent Canada on the world stage by participating in an international exchange.
Most importantly, Air Cadets aids in developing knowledge of Canadian history and democracy. The cadet program focuses on social development, decision-making and leadership. As cadets acquire skills and knowledge, they pass it along to younger cadets.
Every cadet will have the chance to participate in flight activities, and some top senior cadets may even earn a scholarship to obtain their private pilot’s licence. Whether earning a glider pilot licence or private pilot licence, these cadets wear their wings with a pride rarely found in today’s youth"

Education Credits for Cadets: in Saskatchewan
"Formal process exists for individual student (Grades 10,11,12) to apply once during their high school career for one (1) “Special Educational credit (SEC).” This marked credit is put towards the student’s high school diploma in terms of the number of credits and grade point average. In September, students must apply to the school or school board to receive permission to take a SEC course"

"Did you know that the Royal Canadian Air Cadet Program celebrates its 75th Anniversary in 2016? On November 19th, 1940 – the Order-in-Council PC 6647 was signed standing up a Junior Air Cadet Corps for boys 12-14 and a Senior Air Cadet Corps for those 15-18 years of age to support the efforts of the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. Today, Air Cadets is one of the premier youth organizations in Canada"
