This week we focus on: The Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission
It's the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission's job to discourage and eliminate discrimination. It does that in three ways:
  • Investigates complaints of discrimination
  • Promotes and approves equity programs
  • Educates people about human rights law in Saskatchewan

The Human Rights Code:

You have the right to dignity and equality under The Saskatchewan Human Rights Code. Because human rights are so important, the Code takes precedence over other provincial laws.

Filing a Complaint:

"...every person is free and equal in dignity and rights..."
- Section 3, The Saskatchewan Human Rights Code

"The Saskatchewan Human Rights Code protects your right to equality without discrimination based on the protected grounds of disability, age (18 or more), religion or religious creed, family status, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, race or perceived race, nationality, place of origin, ancestry, colour, receipt of public assistance, and gender identity"

Bill of Rights:

It's against the law for someone to violate your rights under the Bill of Rights sections of The Saskatchewan Human Rights Code. Those include the right to freedom of expression, freedom of conscience, and free association.

This week we focus on:  Species at Risk in Saskatchewan
"Nature Saskatchewan has been dedicated to the conservation of Saskatchewan's natural environment since 1949. We promote appreciation and understanding of our natural world through conservation, education and research. Speaking for the protection and preservation of natural eco-systems and their biodiversity through research and viable conservation practices is our main focus. We strive to connect nature and culture through outreach programs and services. With over 800 members Nature Saskatchewan provides programs and services that provide knowledge and experiences for those who have a love for nature"
Vision: Humanity in Harmony with Nature.
Mission: We engage and inspire people to appreciate, learn about and protect Saskatchewan's natural environment.
The Kelsey Ecological Society was formed by a group of nature enthusiasts in April 1997, as a Chapter of Nature Saskatchewan. Our primary purposes are to bring together those who are interested in the Natural World, and to promote Education, Observation, and Sharing of Nature’s Phenomena in our area.

The Kelsey Ecological Society sponsors guest speakers and field tours throughout the year, and meets on the third Wednesday of each month (except December and January) at 7:00 PM.
Jordan Ignatiuk was born and raised on a farm at Preeceville, SK, where the transition of Aspen Parkland to Boreal Forest begins. Within walking distance of the Assiniboine River, many summer days were spent exploring its shores and the forests and wetlands around the farm where his love of nature and wildlife was nurtured. Jordan completed an undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of Regina and after two summers working on waterfowl with Environment Canada in Saskatoon he began his graduate field research there. Jordan received his Master’s Degree from Macdonald College of McGill University. Jordan has worked at Ducks Unlimited, the Saskatchewan Wetland Conservation Corporation (now the Water Security Agency), and most recently with The Nature Conservancy of Canada. Jordan's career has included academic and applied research, wildlife habitat management and conservation, which will bring a well-rounded knowledge to the leadership of Nature Saskatchewan.
