Many people have heard of a corn maze we would like to welcome you to Preeceville’s snow maze. This is being constructed for the Children’s Winter Festival which is being held in conjunction with the mushers rendezvous. This is a great fun activity for kids of all ages. This project is right on schedule and is creating a lot of buzz.The grade 3 students will be helping out by decorating the maze with some snow graffiti. We will have other crafts done by the students displayed in the maze area as well so please come out and look at these great displays.
A free family fun skate is being held at the skating arena from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Everyone is welcome. The town crew is working hard on the sliding hill for the tobogganing competitions. The tobogganing races will be held on Saturday at 1:00 pm. The hill is located beside the arena and the sliding path is going in the North West direction away from the parking lot to ensure the safety of the children. We are very fortunate to have great support from our hockey coaches and on Sunday Feb 1st there is going to be a hockey skills competition from 11:30 to 1:30. This is a way to test different skills that the hockey players work very hard on throughout the season. We have held a competition like this in the past and it is a lot of fun for the kids. This will be open to kids of all ages.There is a 4 on 4 rec hockey tournament that is also being held on Saturday and Sunday after the other rink activities. It is a $20 entry fee per player and is open to bantam aged players and older. You can enter your own team with a maximum of 10 players or enter as an individual and you be placed on a team. Goalies will be available if needed. Contact Mark at 547-8417 or the Preeeceville Arena at 547-3267.

The Town is very excited about the first ever photo competition being held in Preeceville as part of the winter festival. There is 2 parts to this challenge. Kids of all ages will be asked to participate in a competition that will run from the weekend of Jan 16 until contest closing of Jan 26th. There are 3 categories which are as follows: winter wonderland, family and friends, and an action category. A Facebook page is being created for entries Frosty Fun Snaps and Shots 2015. Most kids have some form of technology available to them and is a very easy way to involve everyone with no cost. Winning photos will be displayed over the weekend at the hall and arena. The second part of the competition is limited to the musher’s weekend. This is open to kids of all ages and to the general public. The categories for the weekend event are winter wonderland, dogs and or dogsled team, and family and friends. This part of competition is different as these photos must be in taken on that weekend and must have some relevance to the weekend activities. For example snow maze pictures, tobogganing, skating dogsleds etc. Photos will be judges and prizes awarded.All information will be on the town bulletin board, local newspaper, with notes going out in the school as well as it being advertised on social media.

Upcoming Events:

-There is grades 4-6 curling every Wednesday for the month of January with a mini bonspeil to follow.
- Continue to watch for Friday night wing nights with glow in the dark curling for kids of all ages.

- The 16th Annual Mushers' Rendezvous starts the weekend of Friday, January 30th at the Preeceville Skating Arena. This is a world class event which features six and ten dog sled races. Come out and enjoy the adrenaline of the races, fantastic suppers and the childrens winter festival. New this year is a Snow Maze. Just beening built and it's starting to look like a lot of fun. There will be a photo competition for the older students and other activities for Kids of all ages. Watch the posted info on the Mushers' page of the town website.

- Feb 6th, the Whitehawk Atts Coucil presents "Memory Lane featuring Stephen Maguire" a Tribute to the 40's, 50's and 60's. has audiencies "dancin' in the aisles and singin'along" to all the classics they know and love from artists like Buddy Holly, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, Roy Orbison, Doris Day, The Platters and many more. Begins at 7:30 pm Preeceville Community Legion Hall

- Feb 22nd starting at 11:00am the Rough Rider Snowmobile Club is holding a Family Fun Day at the Hinchcliffe Warm Up Shelter which is located 14 km north of Preeceville on the snowmobile trail. Hot dogs and hot chocolate will be provided by the club. Riders will be entered to win 1 of 4 family local dining gift certificates. There will be door prizes for school aged children, 1 for elementary ages and 1 for high school aged children. Come out and enjoy the trails and meet the members for a fun filled day. Community Events and Town Business newslettter is out with lots of frosty fun things to do over the nest two months. The 16th Annusl Musher's Redezvous wtih the Children's Winter Festival, Figure Skating Carnival, Walking Club, Circuit Weight Training, Total Body Plus, Snowmobile Family fun day, General Skating, General Shinny, minor Hockey day and Whitehawk Arts Coucil with Stephen Maguire. Winter fun in Preeceville

Lot's of true winter activities happening in our town. The Snowmobile Trails need a bit more snow before opening. Work is on going, but you can check out the Weekly Trail Report for the opening date by following the link on our website.
At the North end of Town next to the Lake the cross country trails that are in excellent condition and ready for your use.
The skating arena is busy with hockey and figure skating. All games and ice times are posted on town website. Full consession available at most events.
There is lots of activities starting at the curling rink for both children and adults. The Curling Club Committee was awarded the 2013 Centennial Award for actions which went above and beyond expectations while improving the quality of our community. So come out and see all the new updates for 2015.

United Church annual bonspiel on Jan 10th. Contact: 547-2286. Everyone welcome.
-Seniors bonspiel starting the week of Jan 12th. Its a good opportunity to watch quality curling and enjoy homemade pie and soups. Contact Joe at 547-3117 or Roy at 547-4610 for more information.

Three grants have been awarded in the community so far this year from the EDC. One to the Ski Club to upgrade their trails North of Town. Another one to the Preeceville School for Winter Recreation. The last one is out to the Preeceville Curling Club for a youth curling program that they started last year.

Preeceville wants and needs more recreation. If you have an idea, send us a proposal and you could see your idea come to life with up to $2000.00 in funding. The Preeceville EDC is waiting to hear from you. Deadline is the EDC meeting each month in 2014 so get your proposal to us today.
