Employee Development Plan

 Employee Development Plan

The use of an Employee Development Plan is needed to provide continuous learning opportunities for all of our staff.
Employees work with their supervisor to create a learning plan to improve and build on their skills.
Once the learning plan has been review and approved, another plan is need for the time needed, timelines with other employee’s and the needed resources available to achieve all the set goals.
It is important we use all options in training including a mentoring relationship, job shadowing and coaching at the local level.

Coaching
Employees are able to explore and develop certain knowledge areas and skill development with a coach and/or coaches who encourage them by providing experience, perspective and motivation.

Mentoring
Employees gain advice and suggestions from someone who has direct and relevant experience and know how.

The following development opportunities may be offered and are subject to council approval.

Management Training
Training should be designed to allow employees to gain the training and experience by working in the position. To develop some or all requirements needed. Performance should be appraised every three months or less if need to ensure job requirements for the position are met.

TPHD
Temporarily performs the duties related to a more senior position.

Secondments or backfill
Help provide an opportunity for the employee to use existing skills and learn new ones.

Performance Appraisals

Performance Appraisals should have a learning plan within it that evaluates the employee's performance and moves that employee towards the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform the job effectively.  The Appraisal should indicate what action will be jointly taken to ensure the employee continues to meet all job requirements.

 Work Schedule:

40 hours a week over a five day week. Each position may have a changing schedule and be variable within each month.  The variability of the schedule is a requirement of the position.
