This week we focus on: Free Fishing Weekend
Saskatchewan’s annual summer free fishing weekend is July 8 and 9.
"Since 1989, one weekend is designated each summer when residents and visitors may fish in any of Saskatchewan’s public waters open to sport fishing without purchasing a fishing licence.
“Sport fishing is one of many outdoor activities that Saskatchewan has to offer,” Environment Minister Scott Moe said. “This weekend is an excellent opportunity for people of all ages to enjoy the sport of fishing and to recognize the importance of our fish and aquatic resources.”
Each year, approximately 250,000 people sport fish in Saskatchewan, including more than 50,000 out-of-province anglers.
Anyone planning to take advantage of the free fishing weekend is reminded that all other fishing regulations, including possession limits and reduced limits on some lakes and rivers, remain in effect. Free fishing weekend does not apply in national parks and anyone taking fish out of the province must purchase a licence.

Free Fishing Weekends
Free fishing weekends are July 8 to 9, 2017 and February 17 to 19, 2018.
Please note:
Regular angling limits and all other sport fishing laws remain in effect.
The free fishing weekend does not apply in national parks.

HAL lets you buy online 24/7 at your convenience. You can still buy licences at issuers or by phone.
Eligibility
Whether you are an in-province, out-of-province or out-of-country angler, there is important residency and licence information that you will need to know before buying a licence.
The angling licences available for purchase are based on residency. Please review the residency definitions listed below prior to purchasing your licence to avoid any inconvenience.
A Saskatchewan resident:
Is a person who is a Canadian resident, has their principal residence in Saskatchewan and has lived in Saskatchewan for three months immediately preceding the date of licence purchase.
Includes members of the RCMP, stationed and residing in the province or regular members of the Canadian Armed Forces who were Saskatchewan residents when recruited or deployed from the province.
A Canadian resident is a:
Person who has their principal residence in Canada and who is a Canadian citizen or who has lived in Canada for 12 months immediately preceding the date of licence purchase.
A non-resident is a:
Person who is not a Saskatchewan or Canadian resident.
It is a violation to:
Use more than one HAL ID number for the purpose of obtaining or applying for a licence.
Hold or apply for a licence while suspended.
How To Buy A Licence
Licences are available:
Through your HAL web account any time;
At any Saskatchewan angling licence issuer;
At a Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment or select provincial park office; or
Order by phone using a credit card at 1-855-848-4773 (8 a.m. to 9 p.m.). Please allow 10 business days for delivery.
Licence purchases can be made by accessing your existing account using your HAL identification number of your previously registered secondary identification number. Do not create a second account. For assistance with your account, call 1-855-848-4773 (8 a.m. to 9 p.m.)"

- Old Home Week is a practice that originated in the New England region of the United States, similar to a holiday or festival. In its beginning, in the 19th - 20th century, it involved a municipal effort to invite former residents of a village, town, or city - usually individuals who grew up in the municipality as children and moved elsewhere in adulthood - to visit the Old Home, the parental household and home town.
Our idea is to have events around one week each summer so our former residents and guests can be as busy as they please while checking out what's new in town.
