This week we focus on: Have Your Say on Health System Restructuring
On August 18, the Minister of Health appointed a three person advisory panel to review the current Regional Health Authority (RHA) structure and provide advice on a system with fewer RHAs in Saskatchewan. The panel will also look at services that could be delivered more efficiently and effectively on a provincial scale, examine RHA board governance and accountability, and identify ways to enhance measurement of health system performance. “Our panel wants to support a robust and open dialogue with key partners and stakeholders throughout this process,” panel member Dr. Dennis Kendel said. “The panel wants to ensure the patient is at the centre of a redefined system, which will be structured and governed to best support and improve patient care.” The panel is now accepting online written submissions from all interested individuals and groups. The submission form can be accessed at www.saskatchewan.ca. Submission deadline is September 26. The submission form includes options for responding to each of the four areas within the panel’s mandate, though there is no requirement to complete all four. “Restructuring the health system is an extremely complex process,” panel member Brenda Abrametz said. “The panel welcomes opinions from different perspectives to enhance our abilities to make informed recommendations to the government.” “We sincerely appreciate everyone’s input in this important review that will help to shape the future of Saskatchewan’s health system structure,” panel member Tyler Bragg said. The Advisory Panel will provide scheduled updates throughout the process. All submissions are part of a consultation process that may be released publicly upon the completion of the panel’s work. A broad range of key health system stakeholders will be consulted, including RHA leadership, health providers such as physician leaders, provider unions and affiliates, Indigenous leaders and others who are likely to be identified through the development of the consultation approach. Advisory Panel MembersBrenda AbrametzBrenda Abrametz was appointed Board Chairperson of the Prince Albert Parkland Regional Health Authority Board of Directors in 2013, after serving as Vice Chairperson since 2009. Ms. Abrametz is a local business owner in Prince Albert and also manages two other small business offices. Ms. Abrametz is also a board member and treasurer with the North East Regional Appeal Board and the Northern Golf Classic. Ms. Abrametz will be stepping down as Board Chairperson during the review.Tyler BraggTyler Bragg has extensive experience in a variety of health related portfolios including several years as Chief Financial Officer for Cypress Health Region. He was appointed as Chair of the Cypress Regional Health Authority in 2008 and served in that role for eight years. He helped the health region achieve balanced budgets annually and played a key role in securing provincial approval on major construction projects in Swift Current and Maple Creek. Mr. Bragg also served as Vice Chair of the provincial Governance Council and Chair of the Regional Health Authority Chairs Forum. He also served on a number of provincial health organizational committee holding a variety of responsibilities. Mr. Bragg is co-founder and managing partner of Pinnacle Financial Services where he currently specializes in income tax planning and advisory services for small businesses, farms, corporations and trusts. Dr. Dennis KendelDr. Dennis Kendel is a family physician and a University of Saskatchewan medical graduate who has had a long and distinguished career in Saskatchewan health care. Dr. Kendel is Chief Executive Officer of the Physician Recruitment Agency of Saskatchewan and will be retiring on September 15. He has also served in leadership roles with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Medical Association. In 2004, Dr. Kendel was recognized for his commitment and involvement with quality improvement and efforts to transform health care in Saskatchewan when he was awarded the province’s highest honour, the Saskatchewan Award of Merit. The panel will also look at services that could be delivered more efficiently and effectively on a province-wide basis, examine RHA board governance and accountability, and identify ways to enhance measurement of health system performance. This submission template includes options for responding to each of the panel’s four areas within the mandate. Please fill in the sections where you have an interest or information to share with the panel. You do not have to answer all the questions. When composing a submission, please consider your feedback in the context of Saskatchewan’s ‘patient first’ approach to health care services.

All corn maze hours are weather permitting. - September 8th - Information and Registration night Thursday from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at the Preeceville Community Hall. Free for the public to attend. All ages and intrests are welcome to check out organizations, sign up children for programs, and more. Coffee, juice and doughnuts will be served.
