This week we focus on:  Red Tape Awareness WeekTM   "From January 18-22, we’re spreading the word that your small business faces too many unnecessary barriers: silly rules, confusing regulations, mountains of paperwork, and unhelpful government policies. Every day during Red Tape Awareness WeekTM, check in to see what Canada’s policy-makers are doing (or not doing) about red tape. We challenge those who are part of the problem, and acknowledge those who are part of the solution. In recent years, your support of our efforts during Red Tape Awareness Week has led to changes to make it easier for you to run your business, including changes by the CRA, resulting in many small businesses having to file payroll taxes less often, and changing CRA’s My Business Account into an online system for communicating with government, and ensuring that advice is respected by CRA, even when it is found to be incorrect" "With the strength of over 109,000 small business owners from coast-to-coast – entrepreneurs just like you – the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) is the big voice for small businesses. For over 40 years, we have represented the interests of the small business community to all three levels of government in their fight for tax fairness, reasonable labour laws and reduction of regulatory paper burden" Every year, we recognize some of the worst examples of silly government rules, forms and processes that tie up your business and prevent you from doing what you do best. Here are the finalists for 2016: For government, red tape accountability means having the courage to measure the total impact of government regulation on business, and reports the results. Like going on a diet, this is an essential first step: Measure the problem, to know where to cut the fat. Which governments are ready to get on the scale? On January 19th, we grade governments across the country on red tape accountability. Canadian farmers deal with much of the same red tape that holds back many other small businesses, but their special circumstances mean that they feel the red tape burden somewhat differently. On January 21st, find out how red tape hits home on the farm… CFIB’s latest report, Beyond the Big Border, shows that despite improvements at US and Canadian border agencies, some work remains before small businesses can say they are truly engaged in free trade. Beyond the Big Border  The Golden Scissors Award is given each year to the individual in government who has done the most to cut red tape to free up your small business so it succeeds and grows. There are 9 2016 finalists. The winner will be announced January 22nd. Saskatchewan Proclaims 2016 Red Tape Awareness Week    Events: - The walking club is running Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week, 9 till 10 am at the Legion Hall. Everyone welcome. All you have to bring are clean runners.

- Feb 25th - Whitehawk Arts Council presents The Travelling Mabels. The Travelling Mabels, Voted ACMA 2011 "Group of the Year" are a folk/country female trio full of spirit, spunk and laughter.
