This week we focus on: Community Response to Severe Allergic Reactions   Anaphylaxis is a severe allergic reaction and has the potential to cause death. Epinephrine is the first line of treatment to respond to severe reactions and the placement of auto injectors that talk can be correlated with the placement of automated external defibrillators in public settings. The Town of Sussex is putting epinephrine auto-injectors into numerous locations including schools and businesses. This makes them easily accessible in the case of a severe allergic reaction. Nurse Practitioner Kelly Dunfield says they are the first community in Canada to do this. She says, "We are still rolling this project out, but in the Sussex and area, they have the auto-injectors at 24 sites and in various schools." The epinephrine auto-injectors are used to treat life threatening allergic reactions.
