Distracted Driving is Dangerous Driving

"If you’re in control of a vehicle, anything that takes your attention away from the road is dangerous.

That’s the message behind SGI’s latest distracted driving social media campaign. The ads are simple but point out one obvious fact – your status update can wait. And, they serve double duty, highlighting multiple distracted driving behaviours – making a playlist, driving with your pet, running late or eating on the go.

It’s not against the law to eat, put on lipgloss, pet your dog while driving, etc., but if your behaviour distracts you from driving safely, police may write you a ticket for driving without due care and attention. When it comes to cellphones, it’s illegal to use, hold, view or manipulate a hand-held cellphone while driving. The fine for either offence is $280.

It only takes a second of not focusing on the road to cause a collision, so put aside the distractions and just drive. Distracted driving is dangerous driving, period.

Tips to avoid distraction

  • Limit distractions like eating, grooming, or having emotional conversations with passengers while driving.
  • Pull over if you need to make a call or take care of children or pets.
  • If you drop something, leave it. Don’t fumble around for it.
  • Can’t leave your phone alone? Toss it in the trunk or backseat.
  • Prepare ahead of time: apply makeup, choose music or route and find personal items before driving.
  • Make your drive time, quiet time."

Around Preeceville this fall: Safety - New down town sidewalks are done, pavement done from Midtown to the Water treatment station. Lions are working on their trail project around the town. This year work is ongoing on the North side of the town along the ski trails and old nature trails. 
All will improve safety when driving, walking or hiking the trails in Preeceville. Great work everyone!

Preeceville & District Lioness Club Turkey Bingo on Friday November 23rd, doors Open at 6:30pm Bingo Starts at 7:00pm The ladies club is hosting our annual turkey bingo and this year the funds raised will be donated to our local Preeceville Rider Brandi Kashuba who is joining the Prairie Women on Snowmobiles ride for a cure. Please come out and join us and show Brandi your support for breast cancer research
​606 Harvard Preeceville Air Cadets Squadron Sponsoring Committee is excited to be bringing BINGO back to Preeceville. Next Bingo is November 15, 2018 at Club 60. Doors open at 7pm, first game starts at 8pm.

 Walking Club
Too cold to go for a walk outside? Join other walkers every Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9:00-10:00 am at the Preeceville Community Legion Hall for the months of November thru to April. For more info contact Jackie at 306-547-2842.

 Christmas Trees for Sale
​Preeceville Figure Skating Club will be selling live Christmas Trees and wreaths as a fundraiser.  The Saskatchewan grown trees will be available early December. Contact Andrea at 306-547-2810


Preeceville Public Library
Preeceville Library will be hosting the upcoming Christmas Craft show, December 1, 2018, 10-3pm. at the Preeceville Community Legion Hall. There will be a raffle for a handcrafted quilt, made and donated by Janet McElhinney. Tickets will be available at the library or from any board member and will be sold the day of the show. Draw will be made at the end of the show. The quilt is on display at the library. There will be a 50/50 draw, door prize, pictures with Mr. and Mrs. Clause, cadets will be doing Lunch. Admission is free. Everybody is welcome!
