Provide timely feedback on public engagement projects underway. Share your thoughts, to help us decide on priorities for action.
The Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety is looking for input on possible legislative changes to Part III (Occupational Health and Safety) of The Saskatchewan Employment Act and/or The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 1996 to address impairment in the workplace.
The Government of Saskatchewan is requesting feedback from the public on regulations and policies as part of its review of The Crown Resource Land Regulations, 2017 and The Wild Rice Regulations, 2005.
The Ministry of Environment wants your input on how regulations concerning captive wildlife should be amended.
The Ministry of Immigration and Career Training wants your input on the National Job Bank service.
The proposed Oil and Gas Emission Management Regulations.
Information on Saskatchewan Provincial Park designations as they are purposed and in the consultation stages.
The Ministry of Environment is seeking feedback from stakeholders regarding experience with the Saskatchewan Environmental Code. The anonymous results will be compiled into a summary report that will help improve the code and its future chapters.
The Ministry of Health is requesting feedback from the public and industry stakeholders on proposed changes to the Saskatchewan Onsite Water Disposal Guide. Your input will help modernize requirements for the design and installation of private sewage works.
There are a number of major highways leading into the City of Yorkton and as the area grows and new development occurs, traffic will increase. A study is currently being conducted to plan future transportation infrastructure in the area and the Government of Saskatchewan wants to hear from you.
Have a suggestion to make the Integrated Resource Information System (IRIS) work better for all of industry. We need your feedback.
We want to know how you feel about wildfire safety. You can help us design more effective prevention programming by taking a short survey.
During previous engagement efforts with stakeholders, including municipalities, First Nations, industry stewards, and non-government organizations, the ministry received valuable feedback regarding the development of a Solid Waste Management Strategy.

Solid Waste Management Strategy
Public and Stakeholder Engagement

"The Ministry of Environment is engaging with community stakeholders and First Nations to spearhead the development of a Solid Waste Management Strategy to help address all the items in our province that we commonly refer to as 'waste' – garbage, trash, rubbish, effluent, refuse and scrap materials. Amongst provinces, Saskatchewan has the second highest waste disposal rate at 897 kilograms per person, while only 13 percent of waste is diverted from landfills, the lowest in Canada. Improper disposal of solid waste contributes to environmental impacts and public health risks, through potential environmental contamination and the accumulation of greenhouse gases (GHGs) in the atmosphere. Saskatchewan has established a number of successful waste stewardship and recycling programs to recycle beverage containers, paint and paint containers, scrap tires, used oil, oil filters and containers, antifreeze, electronic waste, and packaging and printed paper. As we move forward, the Solid Waste Management Strategy will serve as Saskatchewan's roadmap for waste reduction and management by outlining long-term goals and actions to support change. It will contribute to the management and protection of Saskatchewan's environment for the well-being of the province, its people and its future.


Engagement
The Government of Saskatchewan prepared a discussion paper outlining the history and issues related to waste management as identified by the Government of Saskatchewan and previous engagement efforts. The discussion paper informed participants of Saskatchewan’s successes and constraints, and helped participants provide feedback during the engagement process. Feedback was provided through written submissions, an online survey, and in-person engagement workshops. Engagement began in March 2017 and feedback was accepted until May 2017. In May 2017, the ministry hosted engagement sessions online and in Regina, Saskatoon and Prince Albert. The sessions included a brief presentation by the ministry, as well as a group discussion and networking sessions. A total of 115 people attended the engagement sessions; 64 responses were received through the online survey; and 32 written submissions were received. In total, 97 organizations were represented in the engagement process.
What We Heard

Feedback received throughout the engagement process has been organized under the three strategic priorities, which includes landfill management, waste stewardship and recycling, and government leadership. A number of common themes were identified throughout the engagement activities including: funding, geographic challenges, regionalization, harmonization, enhanced regulatory and enforcement, and education, amongst others. The ministry’s What We Heard summary document is now available for review.

Moving Forward

The first step to guide Saskatchewan's solid waste management efforts will be the development of a strategy that will provide the overarching framework to facilitate and encourage long-term waste management in Saskatchewan. The ministry is developing a draft strategy that will be available during a second round of public engagement.
Once is the strategy is finalized the next phase will involve the development of short- and medium-term action plans to implement initiatives to reduce and/or manage waste in Saskatchewan. The input provided so far is helping government to understand key interests and concerns to be considered in the development of the strategy.
