This week we focus on: The Nomination Process when running Municipal Office
"It doesn't matter how you vote, the important thing is that you vote"
Our next general election for urban municipalities (cities, towns, villages) will take place Wednesday October 26, 2016.
"It is important to become involved in your community's affairs and exercise your democratic right to choose the leaders of your community. Nomination Day for cities, towns, and villages will be September 21, 2016. At least 10 business days before Nomination Day, the Returning Officer will publish and post a Notice of Call for Nominations stating the vacancies to be filled by the election" Who Can Run? Persons eligible for nomination as a candidate in an urban municipality must:
If your municipality has passed a bylaw requiring candidates to submit a criminal record check it must be filed with the nomination paper. Running for Municipal Office
3. The Nomination Process Urban Municipalities "The first step to being elected to office is to be nominated by electors of the municipality or ward for which you are seeking office. A person can be nominated as a candidate for election by filing a nomination paper, personally or by agent, with the returning officer or nomination officer on the days and during the hours specified in Sections 73 and 74 of The Local Government Election Act, 2015 (LGEA). The returning officer or municipal administrator can tell you where to get a form and provide advice on filling it out. If the population of the municipality is less than 20,000, the nomination form must be signed by five (5) electors. If the population of the municipality is 20,000 or more, the nomination form must be signed by 25 electors. A $100 deposit must be provided. - Preeceville Corn Maze will be opening Wednesday,
August 17. August and
September hours will be Wednesday - Sunday from 1:00
pm with last
entry at 6:00 pm, October hours are to be announced
at a later date.
Trail admission is as followed; 12 and under $3.00,
13-17 $5.00,
adults $7.00, family rate for three or more kids
$25.00.
Group bookings will be taken at the Town Office 547-2810,
ask for Andrea.
All corn maze hours are weather permitting.
- Aug 18th - Mackenzie Training Centre Garage Sale - runs 10:30 am - 3:00 pm
- Aug 19th, Annie Laurie Lake Summer Beach Days from 1-4 pm. Everyone is welcome to participate in the fun supervised beach activities such as water fun, sand castle building and beach volleyball.
- September 8th - Information and Registration night Thursday from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at the Preeceville Community Hall. Free for the public to attend. All ages and intrests are welcome to check out organizations, sign up children for programs, and more. Coffee, juice and doughnuts will be served. A free kids movie will be playing in the dining area starting at 7:00pm. For more information or to register a table contact Andrea at the Preeceville Town Office 547-2810.
- CANADA 150 CELEBRATION - PREECEVILLE Strong, Proud and Free In 2017, Canada will mark the 150th Anniversary of Confederation. Preeceville Celebration will be August 4th, 5th and 6th, 2017.
