This week we focus on: STARS Refueling Trailer "The Preeceville Fire Department has recently received approval from STARS to become a mobile refuelling station. With access to mobile refueling, STARS is able to extend its area of coverage. In the last few years, STARS has completed many emergency transters from the Preeceville Hospital, which often meant waiting for fuel to be deliverd from Kelvington, or the helicopter stopping in Yorkton to refuel. The Preeceville Fire Department is in the process of purchasing the trailer and equipment and are looking for donation to help offset the costs. If you would like to assist by making a contribution, please call Trevor at 306-547-8016 or Cliff at 306-547-7730." Preeceville is on the edge for the range for fuel for these choppers and with this refuelling station it will cut down on travel time in an emergency.  The department is looking for donations of  $500 with the total cost of the project at $6000 and are looking for approximately 10-12 sponsors to make this refuelling system a go.  They also plan is to get a vehicle wrap for the tailer with a big STARS logo on the side as well as all sponsors who have donated money towards the purchase of it. "This map shows the approximate time it takes for a BK117 or AW139 helicopter to be dispatched from one of our bases and fly to a particular area of the country. AW139 data is shown for Calgary, Edmonton and Saskatoon, as these bases operate this aircraft type alongside the BK117. The type of aircraft selected for a mission depends on a variety of factors, and is made in consultation with our transport physicians and pilots. A STARS helicopter is not necessarily used to respond to all incidents. Ground ambulance and airplane ambulance are other options which are taken into consideration when selecting the most appropriate emergency medical transportation. Flight times and the decision to transport by STARS helicopters are affected by a variety of factors including weather conditions, availability of resources, location of landing sites, and the condition of the patient.
